Visual Monitoring System To Help Protect The Colorful Underwater World

Coral reefs are sensitive and fragile marine ecosystems and one of the most sensitive environmental indicators of global climate change. According to research statistics, about 20% of the world's corals have become extinct, and one-third of the world's reef-building stony coral species are threatened with extinction, pushing many species to the brink of extinction. By 2030, nearly 60% of the world's corals are expected to die.

In my country, in the past 30 years, the coral coverage rate has dropped from more than 60% to about 20% on the fringing reefs along the mainland and around Hainan Island, and even around the offshore reefs.
Of course, the degradation of coral reefs is also the result of a combination of factors. In addition to abnormal seawater temperature, natural factors include typhoons, ocean acidification, and outbreaks of harmful organisms. In addition to natural factors, some human activities also put pressure on the survival of coral reefs, mainly including the construction of reclamation projects, destructive and overfishing, the discharge of pollutants into the sea, and extensive tourism development activities. Therefore, scientific protection and restoration of coral reefs is an important work that needs to be promoted urgently.
It is also extremely important to protect and restore degraded coral reefs and implement targeted artificial ecological restoration projects. The current restoration methods mainly include larval breeding, coral fragment culture, bottom seeding and transplantation, construction and placement of artificial reefs, etc.
The coral reef ecological protection monitoring system can be used for coral reef monitoring and management. The system covers the coral reef area water monitoring system, underwater video system, marine environment data, and software system. It can conduct long-term, continuous, and real-time online monitoring of the growth status of coral reefs. Improve the online monitoring, effective assessment, real-time early warning, and dynamic management and control capabilities of the marine environment in the coral reef area, and further realize the intelligent monitoring and protection of the coral reef area.
