Jiaolong Upgraded And Dressed For Departure

According to Ocean News, as a "national heavy weapon" for deep-sea exploration, the Jiaolong manned submersible will complete the pool test in February this year after upgrading and refitting, and will carry out application sea trials in March.

According to the China Ocean Affairs Administration, the current submersibles and technicians are intensively carrying out the upgrade and transformation of the Jiaolong, mainly including the upgrade of key components such as the 7,000-meter-class large-capacity, long-life, high-energy-density flexible lithium battery system and the high-efficiency direct-drive low-noise DC propulsion, while optimizing the hydraulic system, video transmission system, operation toolkit and fault diagnosis and decision-making support systems.

It is reported that the Jiaolong has completed the upgrade and replacement of key components, and will complete the pool test in February 2025, and carry out the application sea trials of the Jiaolong's key operation capabilities in the South China Sea in March. The technical upgrade of key components will significantly improve the overall performance and safe operation capabilities of the Jiaolong, improve the autonomous controllability of deep-sea exploration technology, maintain the leading edge of the Jiaolong technology, and provide technical support for subsequent deep-sea scientific research and application voyages.

As a 7,000-meter manned submersible independently developed by my country, Jiaolong is a "national treasure" for my country to understand and manage the deep sea. Its survey range has covered the Pacific Ocean, Indian Ocean and Atlantic Ocean, and it plays an important role in promoting human understanding of the deep sea and improving the level of scientific research.
