The color of the sea

Open the world atlas, the Yellow Sea, the Red Sea, the Black Sea and the White Sea will come into our sights. The sun's rays look white; but it consists of seven kinds of visible light: red, orange, yellow, green, cyan, blue, and purple. These seven rays have different wavelengths, and seawater of different depths absorbs beams of different wavelengths. After the long-wavelength red, orange, yellow and other beams are injected into the seawater, they are gradually absorbed, and the shorter wavelength blue and blue beams are injected into the seawater, and encounter seawater molecules or other tiny floating bodies suspended in the ocean. It scatters and reflects on all sides. In particular, seawater absorbs less blue light, and more reflections. As the depth goes deeper, more blue light is folded back into the water. Therefore, the seawater we see in the ocean is blue.

Since seawater scatters blue light, then the sea should be azure, but in reality, the ocean is red, yellow, blue, white, and black. This is because some seawater discoloration is stronger than scattering. When the blue color, the sea water will change its face, and the five colors will be colorful.

Factors affecting the color of sea water include suspended matter, ions, and plankton. There are few suspended solids in the ocean, and the particles are very small. The water color mainly depends on the optical properties of seawater. Therefore, the oceanic waters are mostly blue. In the offshore waters, due to the large particles of suspended matter, the offshore waters are mostly light blue. Color; nearshore or estuary city, the seawater is yellow due to the color of the sediment; in some sea areas, when the pale red plankton is multiplied, the seawater is often reddish.

The seawater in the Yellow Sea, especially in the offshore waters of China, is mostly yellowish and turbid. Because the Huaihe River, the Biliu River, the Yalu River and the Han River, Datong River and Qingchuan River on the Korean Peninsula are injected into the Yellow Sea, the river carries a lot of sediment, making the coastal water yellow. So named the Yellow Sea.

Not only does sediment change the color of the sea, but marine life can also change the color of the sea. In the Red Sea between Asia and Africa, one side is the Arabian Desert, and the other side has dry wind from the Sahara Desert. The sea water temperature and the salt content in the sea are relatively high, so there are a lot of reddish brown algae in the sea. Reproduction, the pieces of coral and the red seaweed in the bay are all coated with a layer of red color, so the red sea is reddish, hence the name Red Sea.

Due to the barrier function of the Heihe River in the Black Sea, a large amount of sludge is accumulated on the seabed, which is a factor that contributes to the blackening of the Black Sea. In addition, the Black Sea has many storms, haze, especially the violent northeasterly winds of summer, which set off the gray on the sea. The huge waves, the sea water is smeared, hence the name Black Sea.

The White Sea is the edge of the Arctic Ocean and penetrates into the inland of northwestern Russia. The weather is extremely cold and the icing period is six months. The name of the White Sea is because the white snow that covers the coast is not frozen, and the thick ice layer freezes its harbor, and the sea is covered with snow. Due to the strong reflection on the white surface, the sea we see is white. The colorful sea is a masterpiece of nature.
