My country's first 10,000-meter underwater robot takes a trip to Mariana Trench

10767 meters! my country's self-developed full-sea deep autonomous remote-controlled underwater robot "Haidou" was successfully used in my country's first 10,000-meter abyss scientific expedition not long ago. It created the record of the maximum diving depth of an underwater robot in my country, which becomes my country’s first underwater robot with a dive depth of more than 10,000 meters and complete the application of scientific research in the deep sea, it is the first time for our country to obtain the data of a full-sea depth profile with a depth of 10,000 meters.

Tang Yuangui, executive director of the "Haidou" project and associate researcher of the Shenyang Institute of Automation, Chinese Academy of Sciences, said that the "Haidou" is supported by the Chinese Academy of Sciences' strategic pilot technology "Research and Tackling of Frontier Scientific and Technological Issues in the Abyss of the Sea". The key technology verification platform for deep sea exploration developed by Shenyang Automation has completely independent intellectual property rights.

In April 2014, the development of the "Haidou" was officially launched. On July 1, 2015, the "Haidou" completed the laboratory assembly and joint debugging, and the first launch test. In September of the same year, the shallow sea test in the sea area of Zhangzi Island in Dalian was completed, and the sea test of 2,780 meters in the South China Sea was completed in December.

During the 10,000-meter scientific expedition voyage, the "Haidou" dived 7 times in total, 5 of which were with a depth of more than 8,000 meters, setting a new record continuously, becoming my country’s first dive depth of more than 10,000 meters and completing the scientific expedition application. Underwater robots have laid a solid foundation for my country to successfully rank among the countries that use underwater robot technology to carry out scientific research on the 10,000-meter abyss.
